Who We Are

The Los Angeles Arts Climate Coalition (LAACC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a more sustainable future for the arts. We convene artists, cultural workers, creative professionals, and institutions to exchange knowledge, spark dialogue, and drive climate-conscious action in the cultural and creative sectors.

We began in 2021 as the Los Angeles chapter of the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), formed by a collection of artists and cultural workers with a shared concern about the climate crisis and the arts sector’s role in it. We saw an opportunity to build a collaborative network that could drive environmental progress from the ground up. In 2024, the organization became independent and was renamed the Los Angeles Arts Climate Coalition (LAACC).

Our network has since grown to include not only arts professionals but also architects, engineers, and members of the building and design community—recognizing that sustainability in the arts is deeply interconnected with the built environment and broader systems of production.

Our Mission

We educate, connect, and activate the arts and creative community around environmental sustainability. Through collaboration, resource-sharing, and advocacy, we aim to reduce the cultural sector’s carbon footprint while fostering systems of care, resilience, and imagination.

What We Do

We believe that meaningful change starts with collective knowledge and practice. Our programming is grounded in peer-to-peer learning, hands-on tools, and cross-sector collaboration. LAACC Community meetings and workshops have focused on:

  • Carbon calculation and environmental reporting

  • Energy-efficient HVAC strategies

  • Waste reduction in production and daily operations

  • Sustainable packing and shipping materials

  • Low emissions logistics solutions

  • Carbon literacy for artists and administrators

  • Tours of sustainable sites

In addition to these offerings, we share resources and foster partnerships that help embed sustainability into the day-to-day work of studios, galleries, cultural institutions, and creative businesses.

Our Values

LAACC is guided by the principle that climate justice must be interdisciplinary, inclusive, and actionable. We center collaboration, transparency, and equity in all that we do—understanding that the shift toward sustainability is as much cultural as it is technical.
